Business Start-up Programme

The Prince's Trust's business start-up programme offers low interest loans, grants and support to enable 18-30 year olds to start their own businesses. All are unemployed or under-employed and have been turned down by a bank. 

  • Over 43,000 people have been supported since 1983, creating more than 35,000 new businesses.
     
  • The top 50 businesses turn over in excess of £150 million and employ 1,800 people. 
     
  • Half those who cease trading enter full-time employment, further education or training.
     
  • Approximately 60% of businesses are still trading into their third year. 
     
  • The average support given to set up a business is £2,500.
     
  • 44% set up in the service sector, 25% in media, leisure and the arts, 11% in manufacturing, 8% in fashion and design and 12% in other sectors.
     
  • 4,218 young people received finance and support in the last financial year, creating 3,822 businesses.
     
  • Over 7,000 people are currently volunteering as Business Mentors.
     
  • Over 800 volunteers are serving on boards.
